  • Most of them worked in the Lithuanian office of the company (formerly known as Melsoft).
  • Additionally, some employees from Poland, Armenia, Ukraine, Turkey, and Israel were also affected.
  • There is no information on the exact number of layoffs.
  • An anonymous post on the Glassdoor service openly refers to the situation in January 2025 as “mass layoffs.”
  • Judging by the developers' profiles, many departments were affected by the cuts. Marketers, writers, animators, testers, and artists are among those who lost their jobs. There are few programmers and game designers who changed their status on the social network.

This is likely not the first round of layoffs at Moon Active recently. In June 2024, the publication dev.by reported that since the beginning of the year, the staff in Lithuania at Melsoft had been reduced by 16%.

Moon Active acquired Melsoft for an undisclosed sum in 2020. The studio reached its peak earnings in 2023. By the end of 2023, user spending on its games hit the 1 billion dollar mark.

Trends in Melsoft's mobile game sales

Originally a Belarusian studio, Melsoft is known for games such as Family Island, My Cafe, Toy Defense, and Farm Frenzy. As for the Israeli company Moon Active, its main blockbuster is Coin Master, whose mobile revenue is now approaching the 5 billion dollar mark.
