In January 2025, job vacancies in the UK's gaming industry decreased by 8%

The UK games industry saw a reduction in job openings, dropping by 8% to 696 positions as of January 2025.

This decline is highlighted in the recent Games Jobs Live report, which provides insights and trends within the sector.

The report indicates that layoffs have persisted into the new year, impacting companies such as Splash Damage and Rocksteady. Additionally, there has been a 7% reduction in the number of studios hiring compared to December 2024.

Currently, the UK games industry has 609 permanent positions available, complemented by 87 fixed-term opportunities. Nine firms are seeking to fill 20 or more roles.

In terms of work flexibility, 24% of the roles offer different working arrangements, whether onsite, hybrid, or remote. A significant portion (73%) requires some onsite attendance, while 11% of the jobs can be done entirely remotely.

While most sectors reported fewer job openings, the analytics sector experienced an 11% rise in available positions.

Positions within the AA and mobile sectors saw modest growth this month, in contrast to service companies where roles decreased by 31%. Jobs at AAA studios shrank by 11% as well.

Managerial vacancies saw a further decline, dropping 22% in January, and senior roles slightly decreased by 3%.
