Reflector Entertainment: The action game Unknown 9: Awakening has failed, leading to new layoffs at the studio

The Canadian studio Reflector Entertainment has admitted that the adventure action game Unknown 9: Awakening was a failure. The company has decided to cancel the next game in this universe and reduce its staff.

According to Reflector Entertainment's CEO Herve Hoerdt, further work on the franchise could harm the studio.

"[Unknown 9: Awakening] did not meet the company's expectations, despite multiple delays and significant financial and other investments. Its failure does not allow for the further development of this universe," stated Hoerdt in a announcement.

Hoerdt mentioned that Reflector Entertainment would now focus on developing an unannounced game based on a successful IP from Bandai Namco Entertainment.

It has not been specified how many people will be laid off from Reflector Entertainment. In November 2024, a month after the release of Unknown 9: Awakening, the studio already conducted mass layoffs, parting with 18% of its employees. However, at that time, the studio claimed the layoffs were not related to the game's performance.
