GameSpot employees face another wave of layoffs
The media outlet GameSpot, owned by Fandom, has initiated another series of job cuts today.
While there hasn't been an official confirmation, earlier today, Giant Bomb disclosed that it would "pause today's streams" with a plan to continue tomorrow. Not long after, news about job losses started to emerge.
Dave Klein, a host and senior producer, stated on X/Twitter, "Just got laid off from GameSpot." He offered his skills, saying he is proficient in video production and has been developing a game using C# and Unity.
Upon being questioned about the circumstances, Klein responded that it was part of a "massive layoff" and he wasn't the only one hit by it.
Chris Hayner, a senior editor, remarked on X/Twitter that he can provide expertise in various areas such as writing, editing, video production, social media, and SEO among others.
Senior producer Jake Dekker commented, "Another round of layoffs at Fandom," noting the situation had affected many people. He described this as "the fourth round" since the acquisition of GameSpot in 2022, expressing frustration with the industry.
The specific impact on Fandom and the total number of layoffs have not been clarified. GamesIndustry.biz has sought a response.
This latest wave of cuts adds to earlier layoffs announced in January 2023 and again in January 2024, which also affected GameSpot's sister site, Giant Bomb.
