Nintendo has stripped the title from the Splatoon 3 World Championship winners, Jackpot, following allegations of misconduct
The team that secured the top spot at the Splatoon 3 World Championship earlier this year has had its victory annulled by Nintendo due to allegations against several players.
Jackpot, who clinched the title in April, will no longer be recognized as the winner according to a statement released on Nintendo VS X yesterday, and will not be awarded the competition trophies.
"It has come to our attention that certain members of team Jackpot... acted in a manner that is not in line with our community guidelines while playing the Splatoon 3 game," noted Nintendo.
While the specifics of the allegations were not disclosed by Nintendo, Polygon reported that in June, a different competitive Splatoon player revealed evidence on X of the team using racist language and slurs in social media and Discord chats.
Additionally, there are recordings of these team members using racial slurs while discussing other players during livestreams.
An in-game cosmetic item from Splatoon 3, a Splashtag featuring characters of the team from the championships, will be modified in a forthcoming software update.
"Nintendo cares deeply about our players and our community, and we take our responsibility to uphold our community guidelines seriously," stated the company.
