The mobile division of Mortal Kombat creator NetherRealm has been disbanded.

Reports on LinkedIn from ex-employees indicate that more than 50 staff members were affected by these layoffs.

"Sadly, Netherrealm’s mobile division was closed yesterday," stated quality assurance analyst, Tony Lazzara.

He added, "A lot of exceptionally skilled individuals lost their jobs. We managed live services for several games like Mortal Kombat Mobile, Injustice 2, and Mortal Kombat Onslaught. I am also among those affected. The team possessed immense creativity and dedication."

Long-term team member, animator Elizabeth Ramirez, also shared her experience: "Announcing my layoff after about a decade at NetherRealm is painful."

She continued, "I’m grateful to those colleagues who helped me develop my skills as an animator. I’ll be working on a new demo reel and resume, but I need time to process everything."

GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Warner Bros. for a statement.

This development follows a series of recent industry-wide layoffs. Just yesterday, it was reported that Microsoft disbanded its equality, diversity, and inclusion team. Additionally, roles at Splash Damage were also reported to be at risk last week.
