People Can Fly fired more than 30 developers who worked on the game for Square Enix

Polish studio People Can Fly has parted ways with part of the team of the game codenamed Project Gemini, published by Square Enix. About 50 people left the team — 30 were fired, 20 were transferred to other projects.

Kotaku writes about this with reference to a letter from the production director of People Can Fly, Adam Alker, sent to the studio staff.

According to Alker, the reason for the incident was a reduction in the budget of the game and a reduction in its scale. As Kotaku sources add, the studio has decided to make the main campaign of Project Gemini shorter and the number of enemies smaller.

In November 2023, People Can Fly reported that Project Gemini might have problems. In a note to investors, she reported on the beginning of negotiations with Square Enix about the scale of the project and the terms of cooperation. People Can Fly indicated that it is "highly likely" that it will not "continue to develop Project Gemini on current commercial terms."

Perhaps the future of Project Gemini was influenced by Square Enix's new strategy. Recently it became known that the company intends to reduce the number of games produced in favor of their quality.

The release of Project Gemini was scheduled for 2026. Whether the release date will change now is not reported.
