Discord is going to lay off 17% of the staff
Discord is another company that will undergo large—scale layoffs. She intends to fire about 170 people from different departments, The Verge reports, citing a letter from Discord management to employees.
In a letter, Discord CEO Jason Citron explained that the company's staff has grown too much in recent years — it has increased fivefold since 2020. As a result, Discord began to work on a large number of projects, but its effectiveness decreased. According to Citron, the reduction of staff will make the company more flexible.
This will be the largest round of layoffs in Discord's history and the second in six months. The previous time Discord laid off employees en masse was in August 2023. Then she broke up with 4% of the staff.
Sources of The Verge claim that Discord has not yet managed to become a profitable company, but it expects to make a profit during 2024. Since its inception, Discord has attracted a total of $1 billion in investments. Now it has more than $700 million on its balance sheet.
