The US Communications Workers Union called on the European Commission to approve the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard
The organization Communications Workers of America (CWA, the union of communication workers of the USA) sent a letter to the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Margrethe Vestager. She asked not to block the sale of Activision Blizzard to Microsoft, as this deal will benefit the labor market in the gaming industry.
In the letter, the CWA indicated that a year ago it itself called for a thorough review of the deal out of fear that it would harm the industry and infringe on the rights of employees. But then in June 2022, she signed an agreement with Microsoft, under which the corporation promised to support unions in Activision Blizzard.
CWA is confident that if Activision Blizzard becomes part of Microsoft, then the publisher’s employees will have more opportunities to defend their rights and solve problems with discrimination in the company. Their actions will also serve as an example for employees of other gaming companies.
