Kabam fired the development team in Beijing
Developer and publisher Kabam continues to get rid of assets. The company announced the closure of the development in the Beijing studio.
For the first time, Kabam’s plans to say goodbye to the studio in Beijing became known in December 2016. Only the company wanted to say goodbye differently.
Then the Korean Netmarble acquired the Vancouver studio from Kabam for $800 million. The American publisher hoped that his Asian asset would also be interested.
It didn’t work out.
After the New Year, Kabam closed the development of the Beijing studio – the Legacy of Zeus mobile role-playing game. The project, launched in the summer of 2016, failed to achieve the required indicators from it.
The result of the closure was the dismissal of the team. The Beijing office itself remains for now, but is no longer listed among the assets put up for sale by Kabam.
Today, the publisher hopes that potential buyers will be interested in a studio in Los Angeles, where a game based on Avatar and an unannounced project on another popular IP is being created, and an office in San Francisco, where there is both a development team and publishing facilities.
