The authors of Super Mario Bros. they told how they drew the levels for the game
September 13 Super Mario Bros. it will be exactly 30 years old. For this event, Nintendo decided to coincide with the release of the Super Mario Maker level designer for Wii U, and at the same time show how the authors of the original game created them in the mid-80s.
According to Shigeru Miyamoto and Takahashi Tezuka, who were the designers of the game, they then drew the levels on drawing paper, and then gave the finished sheets to programmers for implementation.
In case of correction of any points, in order not to redraw the entire level, we had to use transparent paper, which the designers put on top of the drawing paper.
Miyamoto also shared the story of the creation of level 1-1, which essentially became a tutorial. The fact is that on one of the first platforms hanging in the air, gumbo walks, which is the enemy. At the same time, there is a mushroom in one of the blocks of the site. And the player could be scared of this mushroom.
In order for the player to understand the usefulness of the mushroom, this fragment of the level was collected in such a way that it is difficult to dodge a falling mushroom. In most cases, the player catches it, even if he doesn’t want to, and understands its value. According to Miyamoto, there were a lot of such moments in the game.
As for Super Mario Maker, it is a game that allows you to collect levels for Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World and New Super Mario Bros. U, and also play all these titles and levels made by other players. The project will be released in September.
