Amazon has hired a leading Guild Wars 2 game designer

Eric Flannum, responsible for the development of Guild Wars 2 and the creation of content in addition to the original Guild Wars, is now working on a PC game in the walls of Amazon Game Studios.

What is going on in the Amazon game studio today is not entirely clear. The company has been radically revising its policy recently. If a year ago the Americans talked about their plans to create a series of premium mobile games, hoping that they would attract the attention of players to Amazon’s physical products (Kindle Fire, Fire Phone and Fire TV), today their studio is working on an ambitious PC project.

For the first time, work on it became known this June. Then came the official information from Amazon, according to which she began to assemble a team of top professionals in Seattle to develop a large game project for personal computers. It happened three months before the announcement of the termination of sales of the Fire Phone, which never gained popularity.

Now it becomes known that Eric Flannum is taking on one of the key roles in creating a new project. At Amazon Game Studios, previously engaged exclusively in mobile projects, he took the post of creative director.

And although it is unclear why Amazon continues to try to enter the gaming market, there is no need to worry about the new project now. The fact is that Eric not only worked at ArenaNet for 10 years, first as the chief content designer, and then as the chief game designer, but also was the lead designer of games such as The Bard’s Tale and Sacrifice, and was also responsible for art and level design in Warcraft 2, Diablo and Starcraft.

On the other hand, just last August, three designers left Amazon Game Studios: Eric Nuland (Eric Nylund), who previously helped Microsoft with work on the Halo universe, Clint Hocking (Clint Hocking), former creative director of Far Cry 2 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, as well as Jonathan Hamel, who was responsible for the last relaunch of Tomb Raider as the lead technical designer.

You will be able to learn about the latest trends in the gaming industry first-hand, personally meet and discuss working issues with leading companies in the game development and publishing market at White Nights Moscow 2015, which will be held on October 13-14.
