Tablet sales in Russia increased by 365%

Today, January 23, the retail chain “M.Video” stated that sales of “tablets” in its stores increased by a crazy 365% in 2012. Most of the sales came from Android tablets.

According to one of the largest Russian retailers of household goods and electrical equipment, during the year the company managed to sell about 300 thousand devices. About half of them are “M.Video” sold out in the New Year’s quarter.

Android tablets were in the greatest demand among domestic buyers. They accounted for 62.3% of all sales. For the iPad, the market share is 36.7% (over the past 9 months, Apple has lost 3.3% of the Russian tablet market). The remaining 1% for Windows tablets.

The situation with tablets is non-standard when compared with global practice. As a rule, Android tablets are seriously inferior in sales to the iPad. The reasons for the relatively low demand for “apple pills”, and at the same time the significant dynamics of the domestic market, are most likely due to the appearance this year of a huge number of solutions in the budget price segment (up to 15 thousand rubles).

Next year, the experts of “M.Videos” predict a further drop in tablet prices, as well as the emergence of new “democratic and at the same time high-quality brands.”
