The Call of Duty franchise has generated over $40 billion in revenue throughout its history
The cumulative revenue from the Call of Duty series since its inception in 2003 has surpassed $40 billion. Asha Sharma, head of Xbox, announced this on October 26 while commenting on the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
In her post on X, Sharma called Modern Warfare 4 one of the most highly acclaimed games in the franchise. She also thanked the developers at Activision and the series' fans for the financial milestone achieved.
It's worth noting that back in April 2026, the cumulative revenue of Call of Duty was estimated at $35 billion. This figure was mentioned by Activision in materials related to the upcoming film adaptation of the franchise.
The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 was released on October 23, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The development was led by Infinity Ward. Unlike previous installments, the game did not appear on the Game Pass subscription service simultaneously with its release — it must be purchased separately.
Microsoft has yet to disclose the sales figures and revenue for Modern Warfare 4. It is also unknown what contribution the new game has made to the franchise's cumulative income.
