Podcast: Rebecca Lautner of Landfall discusses Peak's 23 million sales and the future beyond friendslop
In a recent GamesIndustry.biz podcast episode, Rebecca Lautner from Landfall Games chatted with Lewis Packwood at the Game Republic New Horizons event. Lautner mentioned that despite the success of "Peak," which has surpassed 23 million in sales, the team is eager to explore new projects.
"From a business point of view, believe me, it's very frustrating sometimes because there's so much opportunity in there," Lautner commented. "But that's just not what we're about. And I learned to accept that really, really early on when I joined the team. I was like, okay, we have a very different path that we want to go, and it's fun."
Lautner also highlighted the formation of their publishing branch, Evil Landfall, which supported the successful game "How to Fish." The company aims to back a variety of games, not just those akin to friendslop titles.
She also elaborated on Landfall's unique approach of a "fail fast" policy — if a game doesn't come together in a month, it's abandoned. Additionally, she shared insights into their Stockholm studio, which includes amenities like a chef and bar, and explained why there was no April Fools game release this year.
