Profit nearly doubled — and more insights from Electronic Arts' quarterly report

The sale of Electronic Arts (EA) for $55 billion is nearing completion, but this does not prevent the company from reporting its quarterly results. EA announced its performance for the first quarter of fiscal 2027 (April-June 2026) in a report to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

  • According to the report, EA's revenue for the quarter amounted to $1.98 billion, up 19% from a year ago. Net bookings (or deferred revenue) also grew by 4% to $1.35 billion.
  • Meanwhile, EA's net income jumped significantly by 97.5% to $397 million.
  • The company stated that the increase in revenue was achieved thanks to strong performances from Battlefield 6, Apex Legends, and the EA Sports FC series. However, EA noted that earnings from the sales of Split Fiction and the EA Sports College Football series somewhat declined.
  • Games-as-a-service accounted for 74.1% of EA's revenue. They earned $1.47 billion, which is 7% more than last year.
  • Revenue from other games amounted to $514 million, up 78% year-on-year. Of this amount, $438 million came from digital versions of games, while $76 million came from discs and cartridges.
  • The breakdown of EA's revenue by platform is as follows: 60% from console games, 26% from PC games, and 14% from mobile games.
  • EA also reported that it earned $764 million in North America. The company did not share information about revenue in other regions.

It is expected that by this evening, August 4, EA will be officially sold to a consortium of investors. From that moment, its owners will be the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners.
