The game director of The Blood of Dawnwalker: focusing on sales when creating a game is a direct path to failure

Game developers should prioritize creativity over financial goals, according to Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the former head of development for The Witcher 3, who is now responsible for the action RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker. He shared this opinion during an interview with Radio Times Gaming.

During the conversation, Tomaszkiewicz was asked what revenues and sales The Blood of Dawnwalker needs to achieve to be considered a success. He responded that he does not wish to make any predictions and generally disapproves of studios setting specific targets and metrics in advance.

"If during development you are thinking about sales and trying to tailor the game to them, it is doomed to fail from the start," explained the game director of The Blood of Dawnwalker regarding his stance.

Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged that creativity alone isn't enough to sustain a project and that financial resources are necessary to create a potential sequel to The Blood of Dawnwalker. However, he doesn't prioritize these financial aspects; he values more highly the fulfillment of the ambitions of Rebel Wolves studio and gaining audience recognition. Furthermore, Tomaszkiewicz is convinced that if a game is well-made, it will sell well.

The release of The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled for September 3, 2026, on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series. Currently, the game has more than 2 million wishlists, making a failed launch unlikely.
