Sales of Cyberpunk 2077 have exceeded 40 million copies—faster than The Witcher 3 did in its time
CD PROJEKT announced on social media about reaching a milestone.

As specified by the Polish company, in calculating the sales, they considered both the base edition of the game and the ultimate edition, which includes the Phantom Liberty expansion. CD PROJEKT did not provide separate figures for the expansion.
“40 million copies sold testify to the incredible and sustained popularity of Cyberpunk 2077. They also confirm what CD PROJEKT does best — creating high-quality, captivating stories that keep gamers coming back for years,” stated CD PROJEKT's Co-CEO Michał Nowakowski.
To achieve such sales figures, Cyberpunk 2077 required about 67 months or five and a half years. For comparison, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had a slower sales pace — it took 83 months to surpass the 40 million copies mark.
Recall that Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10, 2020. The game launched amidst a major scandal due to its technical state leaving much to be desired. However, the situation gradually improved, and Cyberpunk 2077 secured a respectable place in CD PROJEKT's portfolio.
