New Remedy Head: Sales of Alan Wake and Control Could Have Been Higher, Studio Hasn't Even Unlocked Half of Its Potential

In March 2026, the position of CEO at Remedy Entertainment was taken by Jean-Charles Gaudechon, a veteran of Electronic Arts and CCP Games with 20 years of experience in game development. Recently, he gave an interview to The Game Business, where he shared his thoughts on the studio's business.

During the conversation, Gaudechon admitted that he greatly values the unique style and creative energy of the Finnish team, thus he does not intend to change anything in its DNA. Moreover, the top manager wants Remedy to continue focusing on games that are unconventional by industry standards. However, he has some questions regarding the strategy.

Specifically, Gaudechon believes that it's time for Remedy to not only seek critical acclaim but also to generate substantial profits. One way to achieve this could be by transforming games into full-fledged multimedia franchises. The team took the first steps in this direction even before Gaudechon's appointment, when they made a deal with Annapurna Pictures for the adaptation of their titles, but in the future, something more might be necessary.

"The partnership with Annapurna Pictures will allow our games, our franchises to realize their potential and reach an audience they do not have today. It's unfortunate, but I think Alan Wake should have sold better. Control should have sold better. I believe this is one of the first issues that needs to be addressed—somewhat even before starting work on new games," stated Gaudechon.

However, there are limits to Remedy's multimedia approach. According to Gaudechon, the team isn't planning to make mobile free-to-play games—unless a good idea is proposed, for example, by the studio's creative director Sam Lake, whose input is at least worth hearing.
