In April, "Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream" topped Circana’s US revenue charts, garnering over $41 million through a mix of physical and estimated digital sales. This success contributed to a 44% rise compared to last year's consumer spending on new physical games, which now totals $96 million. The overall spending from the start of the year has climbed by 9%.

Spending on video game content increased by 2% in April, reaching $3.8 billion. So far in the year, content expenditure has risen by 3% to hit $16.7 billion. "Pragmata" by Capcom emerged as the overall second-best-selling title, taking the lead on PlayStation platforms in April. It also secured the runner-up position on PC, the third spot on Xbox, and a spot within the top 15 on Nintendo systems.

Overall spending in the US video game market reached $4.3 billion in April, reflecting a year-on-year rise of 3%. Up to this point, spending for the year is 5% higher compared to 2025, amounting to $18.8 billion.

Revenue from hardware increased by 34%, totaling $261 million, driven by impressive sales of the Nintendo Switch 2. This surge countered declines seen in other consoles: the original Nintendo Switch experienced a 69% drop, Xbox Series X|S saw a 43% reduction, and PlayStation 5 sales decreased by 30%.

The Switch 2 emerged as the leading hardware in terms of both unit sales and revenue for April and the year to date, with PlayStation 5 following. Nintendo’s hardware market share reached its peak since July 2025.

Circana has adjusted its reporting, now predicting the Top 10 best-selling games each month instead of the Top 20. The data that includes sales figures from Circana's Digital Leader Panel is marked with a ^, while titles with some projected digital sales are marked with an *.

Mat Piscatella, senior director at Circana, explained to Kotaku that this updated method can better reflect the performance of games like "Windrose," which might not have been included in previous reports. This new approach ensures a more accurate depiction of video game sales, though it does introduce a margin of error.

The preference is for full participation from publishers in digital sales reporting for the most precise insights.

The following are the anticipated top 10 best-selling games from April 5 to May 2, 2026, based on Circana's data:
