US hardware sales surged 69% in March 2026, driven by the robust performance of the Switch 2 | US Monthly Charts

In March 2026, spending by U.S. consumers on video gaming surged by 12%, reaching $5.3 billion. During the first quarter, there was a 5% increase, totaling $14.6 billion year-over-year.

Hardware sales significantly contributed to this increase, with revenues climbing 69% to $500 million, largely due to the impressive performance of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Data from Circana indicates that the Switch 2 dominated both unit and dollar sales in March and for the year so far in 2026. The PlayStation 5 followed, experiencing a 3% increase in sales compared to the previous year.

The Switch 2's sales figures reflect a 12% improvement over the original Switch within its first ten months. This marks the fastest sales growth for a hardware platform on Circana's records since 1995.

Spending on video game content grew by 8%, amounting to $4.5 billion. Console content achieved a 22% increase, driven by a 40% rise in digital premium downloads and the release of new titles like Crimson Desert, MLB The Show 26, and Pokémon Pokopia.

On the Nintendo platform, Pokopia topped the charts, followed by Pokémon Legends: Z-A in second place. Overall, Pokémon Legends: Z-A secured the 18th position in Circana’s Top 20 games list.

Resident Evil: Requiem is now one of the top five best-selling titles in the Resident Evil series within the U.S., following titles such as Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 4 (2023), Resident Evil: Village, and the original Resident Evil 4, just two months post-launch.

The mobile gaming sector saw Monopoly Go maintaining its leading position despite more than a 10% reduction in revenue quarter-on-quarter.
