Nintendo reported a 99.3% increase in net sales, driven by the sale of 17.37 million units of the Switch 2 console

Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has released encouraging financial results, largely driven by the popularity of its latest console, the Switch 2.

Throughout the initial nine months of the 2025/26 financial year, Nintendo recorded a nearly doubling of its net sales, reaching ¥1.9 trillion ($12.3 billion). Operating profits showed a significant increase of 21.3%, totaling ¥300.4 billion ($1.9 billion), while ordinary profits soared by 39.4% to ¥445.8 billion ($2.9 billion). Net profit surged by 51.3%, amounting to ¥358.8 billion ($2.3 billion).

The Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved sales of 17.37 million units, with 7.01 million units sold in the three months leading to December 31, 2025. This marks the most successful quarter for the console, surpassing the 5.82 million units sold upon its initial release in Q1. Compared to its predecessor's launch, the current sales figures show enhanced performance since the original Switch had sold 14.86 million units in the same timeframe during the 2018 financial year. The Switch 2 launched in June of its inaugural year.

Meanwhile, the original Nintendo Switch sold 3.25 million consoles over the nine months leading up to the end of December 2025, showcasing a year-on-year slump of 66%. Cumulatively, the console has seen 155.37 million units sold and was actively used by 129 million gamers throughout 2025, a slight decline from 130 million in 2024.

Software sales for the Switch 2 reached 37.93 million units, whereas the original Switch had 108.93 million sales, albeit with a 12.1% drop compared to the previous year. During Q3 of 2025, 17.31 million games for the Switch 2 were sold, with physical copies comprising 58.7% of total Nintendo games sold in this period.

Regarding software, the Switch 2's Mario Kart World remains a top seller with 14 million copies sold. Donkey Kong Bananza follows, with 4.25 million units sold, and Pokémon Legends Z-A has reached 3.89 million. Kirby Air Riders has recorded sales of 1.76 million units.
