Ubisoft has announced the loss of 29 jobs at its mobile studio located in Abu Dhabi

29 employees have been laid off from Ubisoft's office in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Information about the job cuts emerged after impacted staff shared their experiences on LinkedIn.
These LinkedIn updates, noted by Game Developer, came from three individuals involved in social media, game support, and art direction roles. They cited a restructuring that occurred towards the end of 2025. Ubisoft confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that these layoffs were executed in November.
According to the company, "In November, Ubisoft made the difficult decision to restructure its Abu Dhabi mobile studio, discontinuing some projects to concentrate on Growtopia." This strategic change affected 29 staff members, though Ubisoft emphasizes their appreciation for these employees' efforts and is assisting them through this period.
Established in 2011, Ubisoft Abu Dhabi functions as a regional hub focusing primarily on Growtopia, a popular MMO that Ubisoft has owned since 2017. The studio also has experience handling mobile projects, including those under the CSI franchise.
This announcement follows a sequence of job reductions at the company, including recent layoffs at Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft Stockholm, as well as the closure of the Ubisoft Halifax studio. Earlier, Ubisoft mentioned an impending reorganization into Creative Houses, with details expected this month. The first of these is a collaboration with Tencent, resulting in the establishment of Vantage Studios, which will focus on key franchises like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry.
