Over 20 million copies of the RPG phenomenon, Baldur's Gate 3, have been sold to date.

According to Bloomberg, this significant achievement was highlighted in an interview with Swen Vincke, founder, CEO, and creative director of Larian Studios. By late 2024, sales had surpassed 15 million, meaning the game sold an additional 5 million copies throughout 2025.

Vincke mentioned collaboration with Wizards of the Coast, owner of Dungeons and Dragons, on another project post-Baldur's Gate 3, which was eventually halted as the team was not finding the work enjoyable.

"All the elements for a great game were there, but the developers lacked enthusiasm," he stated.

Currently, Larian Studios is developing a new installment in its own Divinity series. This project was revealed at The Game Awards 2025. Attempts to integrate AI were not highly successful, though the technology is utilized for internal purposes like presentations and concept art. Vincke assured that the Divinity game will not contain AI-generated content.

"Everything is created by human talent," he said. "All writing is done in-house."

Larian Studios, mainly owned by Vincke and his wife, also has Tencent as a minority stakeholder. Although Tencent’s involvement does not influence decision-making, its support is deemed crucial. This comes in contrast to a recent Bloomberg piece stating Tencent is increasingly "assertive" in companies it fully owns, while providing strategic assistance to firms it invests in.

"Their support means I don’t worry about basic expenses," Vincke expressed.

Vincke also addressed the company's growth, noting that the Belgium-based studio has expanded to 530 employees across multiple continents. This scale is necessary for AAA development but presents its own challenges.

"Many founders face similar dilemmas," Vincke noted.

"Growth brings unexpected responsibilities. You have to manage them as best as you can. Expansion introduces challenges you never anticipated."

Baldur's Gate 3 first appeared in Early Access in October 2020, before its full release in August 2023.
