Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a sales milestone of 35 million copies to date

The dystopian science fiction hit, Cyberpunk 2077, has surpassed sales of 35 million copies.

This information is from CD Projekt, the game's developer and publisher, noting that Cyberpunk 2077 achieved this milestone more rapidly than its predecessor, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It took five years for Cyberpunk 2077 to reach these sales figures, whereas The Witcher 3 reached over 30 million copies in six years.

Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski specified that these numbers represent sold copies, excluding those from subscription services.

"This significant milestone not only highlights our success but also underscores the franchise's strength and our business strategy's efficacy," he commented to investors.

"Our focus on high-quality, narrative-driven titles ensures continued sales, with content updates keeping our games fresh and engaging over time."

In an investor address video, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz mentioned that Cyberpunk serves as the principal income source for the company. Financial reports from CD Projekt reveal that Cyberpunk 2077 and its Phantom Liberty expansion made up 72.4% of the third quarter's overall sales revenue.

CD Projekt shared insights into the much-anticipated Cyberpunk 2, now under development in Boston. This project currently has a team of more than 80, including developers who have previously contributed to titles like Grand Theft Auto, God of War, World of Warcraft, and The Last of Us. The company is now looking to expand with mid-level roles as pre-production advances, aiming to double the Boston team's size within two years.

"Launching the Boston hub for Cyberpunk 2 allowed us to manage the development of two major AAA titles simultaneously," stated Nowakowski.

"While adding geographical and operational layers of complexity, this move enriched us with diverse expertise and experiences. We have confidence that this investment will elevate the future of the Cyberpunk series."

For the third quarter, CD Projekt reported sales revenue of PLN349 million ($95.7 million), marking a 53% rise from the previous year.
