In the first four months following its release, the Switch 2 achieved record-breaking global sales, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo platform to date.

In the initial four months on the market, Nintendo's Switch 2 has set a new record for global sales among its gaming consoles.
Following the release of their latest financial data, Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, stated that the Switch 2 is experiencing the most rapid sales growth ever seen for the company's gaming platforms.
Sales have reached 10.36 million units for the Switch 2 during this period, more than doubling the original Switch’s results for the same time frame.
Furukawa assured that Nintendo plans to maintain a consistent hardware supply by boosting production to cater to greater-than-anticipated demand, an issue previously discussed before the console's launch.
Looking ahead, the president highlighted that Nintendo would prioritize software development for the Switch 2 and broaden its associated business opportunities. Furukawa also mentioned ongoing sales of the original Switch, which continue at a steady rate despite the launch of its successor.
According to Nintendo’s insights, 84% of Switch 2 purchasers are returning customers from the original Switch, while 16% are new adopters.
Furukawa observed that those who invested in the initial Switch model from its 2017 debut until Switch 2's release have consistently upgraded to the new system.
Regarding software, it has been noted that approximately nine out of every ten consumers owning the Switch 2 have engaged with Mario Kart World, which reached 9.57 million in sales upon launch with the console. This includes both the console and Mario Kart World bundles, as well as digital downloads.
The console's other notable first-party game, Donkey Kong Bananza, achieved sales of 2.6 million copies within 12 weeks from launch.
Furukawa mentioned the robust backing from third-party developers, which has resulted in the Switch 2 having an extensive third-party software lineup, the broadest for any new Nintendo console.
In financials, Nintendo reported the first six-month period ending September 30, 2025, saw a 110% rise in sales to ¥1.1 trillion ($7.2 billion), with operating profits climbing 19.5% to ¥145.1 billion ($950 million).
For the full year, Nintendo forecasts net sales to hit ¥2.25 trillion ($14.6 billion, a 93.1% increase) and anticipates operating profit to reach ¥370 million ($2.4 billion, up by 30.9%). They project Switch 2 hardware sales to reach 19 million units (a 26.7% rise) and software units to total 48 million (an increase of 6.7%).
