Strategic Plans
Sega is advancing a "transmedia strategy," aiming to enhance well-performing intellectual properties primarily by leveraging games, with plans to branch into films, animation, merchandise, and events. This strategy aims to augment user engagement and revenue streams, fostering IP growth. Sonic is highlighted as an IP with established success, and similar strategies will be applied to Like a Dragon and Persona.
The company stated, "We are moving forward with roadmaps for each major IP to advance transmedia efforts, thereby increasing user interactions in various sectors. By cultivating strategic alliances with major platform providers, we intend to enhance global reach for our IPs, translating this into income through new game releases, recurring sales, free-to-play models, and licensing development. The profits thus generated are reinvested to further enhance IP value."
Sega also shared sales data for flagship titles, with Sonic Superstars achieving 2.43 million units, Sonic Frontiers reaching 4.57 million units, Persona 3 Reload hitting 2.07 million units, and the Persona 5 series amassing 13 million units.
Japan emerged as Sega's top market in 2024, constituting about 69% of its video game segment. The remaining market shares were 51% in North America, 32% in Europe, and 16.6% in Asia. By 2028, Sega anticipates expansion in these markets, with Japan expected to grow to 76%, North America by 58%, and Europe by 37%.
The company noted it earns more from its mobile game offerings than from console and PC games combined, a trend it expects to extend to 2028.
For the fiscal year concluding in March 2026, Sega plans to unveil new major IPs, including Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and Football Manager 26. Furthermore, for the fiscal years concluding in March 2027 and 2028, Sega aims to introduce at least four new mainstay titles annually, along with legacy IP releases. They will also expand revenue channels by enhancing repeat sales, increasing platform support, and rolling out subscription-based services.
Sega's entertainment division currently employs 6,391 individuals.
