Console sales in the US are actively growing—thanks to the Nintendo Switch 2 and rising prices

In August 2025, Americans spent $312 million on purchasing consoles, reports Circana analyst Mat Piscatella. This is a 32% increase compared to the previous year.

According to Piscatella, the main driver of this growth was the increase in console prices, with Microsoft alone raising the price of its consoles twice this year. The excitement surrounding the Nintendo Switch 2 also contributed to sales growth. In total, 2.4 million units of the second Switch were sold in the US during its first three months, the best debut in the country's history. Previously, the PlayStation 4 held the record, with Americans purchasing 2.2 million units at its launch.

Other data from the Circana report:

  • Sales of gaming accessories in the US dropped by 6% in August, totaling $169 million. The month's bestseller was the Pro Controller for the Nintendo Switch 2;
  • Game sales increased by 11%, reaching $4.17 billion. The best-selling game of August in the US was NBA 2K26;
  • The total revenue of the American gaming market in August amounted to $4.65 billion, 11% more than in 2024.
