Playstack's revenue surged by 52% year-over-year in the first half of 2025

Playstack, the publisher behind the Balatro game, has seen a significant surge in its revenue during the first six months of 2025. A report shared in conjunction with its parent company TruFin indicates a remarkable 52% increase compared to the previous year, with earnings jumping from £20.2 million ($27.3 million) in 2024 to £30.7 million ($41.5 million) in 2025.
Playstack has successfully sold over three million units of its games, Balatro and the survival title Abiotic Factor, within the same period in 2025. The company's statement highlights the extraordinary performance of these games in generating positive returns on development investments.
After the early access launch of Abiotic Factor in May 2024, its full release occurred on July 22, 2025, significantly contributing to Playstack's performance in the latter half of the year.
Despite Balatro’s continued success in sales, its developer, LocalThunk, announced they will delay an upcoming update indefinitely to prevent excessive work hours, known as "crunch mode."
PlayStack's founder and CEO Harvey Elliott highlighted their consistent commitment to a clear strategy of discovering and publishing outstanding indie games across genres. He emphasized their continued growth and aim to solidify their status as a prominent indie game publisher in the UK.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz in May 2025, Elliott described Balatro as a transformative title for the company and the industry, noting the increased confidence it has brought to their strategy and vision.
