In July, US hardware sales rose by 21% to $384 million, largely due to the success of the Nintendo Switch 2.

This information comes from Circana, which highlighted that this is the strongest July performance in hardware revenue since 2008’s $441 million.

The Nintendo Switch 2 not only led hardware sales for the month but also for the year to date, surpassing two million units in the US within two months of its June 5 launch. The Switch 2's unit sales are 75% higher than its predecessor's at this point.

In the games market for July, new releases filled four out of the top five positions. Leading the pack were EA Sports College Football 26 and EA Sports MVP Bundle 2025, with Donkey Kong Bananza in third place.

Mario Kart World set a benchmark for best-selling releases on Nintendo platforms in June, and the Switch 2 continues this momentum. Ranking fourth is Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4, developed by Iron Galaxy and published by Activision.

The latest Tony Hawk edition also achieved Top Four status across both console and PC sales charts for the month.

Grounded 2, by Obsidian Entertainment and Eidos-Montréal, entered the Top 20 at No.8. Conversely, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach fell from No.2 to No.12, while Elden Ring: Nightreign dropped from the top position to No.16.

Overall, expenditure on video game content increased by 4%, totaling $4.5 billion. Circana attributes this to a 7% boost in mobile content sales reaching $2.3 billion, and a 21% rise in non-mobile subscriptions at $0.5 billion. These gains counterbalanced a 9% decline in console spending.

Consumer spending also grew, up by 5% to $5.05 billion from $4.1 billion the year before.

In the mobile game sector, the top titles were Monopoly Go, Royal Match, Last War: Survival, Candy Crush Saga, and Whiteout Survival.

Notably, Garena's Free Fire advanced seven positions to No.6, with Sensor Tower's Sam Aune stating it has "skyrocketed US revenue since last year".

Aune referred to July as an "explosive month" for mobile gaming, noting a "7% growth in consumer spend compared to July 2024".
