Randy Pitchford is confident that thanks to Borderlands 4, the franchise's sales will "easily" exceed 100 million copies
Gearbox Entertainment's CEO Randy Pitchford forecasts strong sales for the next installment of Borderlands. He shared his insights in an interview with Insider Gaming at Gamescom 2025.

Pitchford did not specify the exact sales volume he expects from Borderlands 4. However, he stated that with the release of the title, the total number of copies sold in the series will easily surpass the 100 million mark. According to the latest financial report from Take-Two Interactive, it is known that by the summer of 2025, the franchise games have been purchased 94 million times. Given this, it can be concluded that the developer is aiming for at least 6 million copies sold of Borderlands 4.
According to SteamDB data, at the time of writing, Borderlands 4 ranks fourth among the most anticipated upcoming releases on Steam, ahead of titles like Battlefield 6, ARC Raiders, Slay the Spire 2, and many other projects.
Recently, analysts from Alinea Analytics estimated that as of mid-August, the Steam version of Borderlands 4 has gathered 1.8 million wishlists.
Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.
