Nintendo Switch 2 Launch Figures: Comparing Sales with the First Switch and Other Consoles
Last week, Nintendo released official sales and other metric data for the Switch 2. Today's article is filled with numbers and graphs detailing the console's performance, including comparisons with competitor device launches.
In the latest financial report, Nintendo announced that by the end of the quarter — June 30, 2025 — Switch 2 sales reached 5.82 million units*. Considering the console launched on June 5, this achievement was made in just 25 days.
By comparison, the first Switch sold 2.74 million units over a similar period — 28 days, from March 3, 2017, to March 31, 2017. Thus, the initial sales of the Switch 2 were almost 72% higher.
There is also a significant difference in game sales between the two consoles. Switch 2 outpaces its predecessor by 45.4% — 8.67 million compared to 5.46 million copies sold* by the end of the first month. This includes not only platform exclusives but also titles from third-party developers.
*Here, "sales" refer to product shipments (sell-in) to retailers and other Nintendo business partners. This metric is often used in quarterly reports—sometimes referred to as "shipments"—for calculating revenue and profit for a specific period. Therefore, actual sales by this point could be less, but shipments are used for financial reporting.
