Key Highlights

Nintendo's financial report indicated a substantial rise in Q1 2025 revenue, more than doubling with a 132% increase year-over-year. The newly launched Switch 2 has set records as the quickest-selling console in US history, with an impressive initial performance.

Launched on June 5, the hybrid console achieved sales of 3.5 million units within four days. Nintendo hailed this as the highest launch sales for its dedicated gaming platforms globally.

Switch 2 totaled 5.82 million units sold in its first quarter, with the original Switch selling 0.98 million units. Demand for the Switch 2 surpassed Nintendo's expectations, prompting the company to scale up production, as outlined by President Shuntaro Furukawa in a July earnings call.

Despite reports suggesting third-party game sales underperformed forecasts, first-party sales thrived. The launch game Mario Kart World moved 5.63 million units, though this figure includes those bundled with the console.

Nintendo noted strong sales of existing titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party Jamboree, playable on Switch 2. Overall, 8.67 million software units for Switch 2 were sold, while Nintendo Switch games reached 24.4 million units in combined sales.

The company plans to sustain sales momentum with Mario Kart World and upcoming releases like Pokémon Legends: Z-A.

While Nintendo's digital sales fell 13.5% year-over-year, reportedly due to fewer sales of Switch downloadable content, their IP business sales saw a 4.4% drop, attributed to reduced movie revenue after the initial success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Since this film's debut, which amassed $500 million worldwide in just over a week in 2023, analysts expect another boom when The Legend of Zelda movie premieres in 2027.

Nintendo maintained its projected forecast for the fiscal year, anticipating a 63.1% rise in sales by March 2026's end.
