EA earned more than expected for the quarter, partly thanks to Star Wars: Battlefront II
Electronic Arts (EA) has announced the results of the first quarter of fiscal 2026 (April-June 2025). From the perspective of revenue and receipts, it surpassed the company's expectations.
Star Wars: Battlefront II
- Compared to last year, EA's net revenue increased by 0.6% to $1.67 billion. Although this is a modest growth, the company initially forecasted a decline.
- Net bookings grew by 3% to $1.29 billion, surpassing the forecast by $23 million.
- The majority of the bookings, as usual, came from games-as-a-service — $1.08 billion. This is 1% less than last year. Meanwhile, bookings from other games jumped by 27% to $214 million, largely due to strong sales of Split Fiction and the excitement around Star Wars: Battlefront II.
- By platform, the distribution of bookings was as follows: consoles accounted for 53.2%, PC for 24.6%, and mobile for 22.2%.
- EA is pleased with the quarterly results of its soccer game lineup. In particular, FC Mobile achieved record bookings.
- Nevertheless, EA's net profit dropped by 28.1% to $201 million.
- At least for this fiscal year, EA does not plan to increase the prices of standard editions of games to $80.
- The creation of Battlefield 6 was more expensive than any other game in the series. The exact cost is unspecified. EA intends to develop the game not as a product but as a platform.
- During the quarter, EA repurchased 3 million of its shares, spending $375 million on the buyback.
