Sales of 9 Kings surpassed 250,000 copies in a week
The publisher's portfolio, Hooded Horse, has added another indie hit. The company announced that the roguelike kingdom-building game 9 Kings sold over 250,000 copies in its debut week.
9 Kings
9 Kings was developed by the small Brazilian studio Sad Socket. The game launched in Early Access on Steam on May 23, 2025, and quickly gained attention. Just two days later, the developers boasted that 9 Kings had reached its first 100,000 copies sold. As we can see, demand has not waned since.
Recently, analyst Simon Carless from GameDiscoverCo included 9 Kings in the list of the best-selling new releases of May on Steam. According to his estimates, by the end of the month, the roguelike generated $2.2 million in gross revenue — only eight games released in May earned more. In terms of copies sold on Steam, 9 Kings outperformed projects like Cash Cleaner Simulator, Monster Train 2, and F1 25.
Currently, 9 Kings holds a "very positive" rating on Steam. The game received praise in 92% of 4,600 reviews. Its peak online exceeded 13,900 players.
