Circana: Monthly revenue of the US gaming market continues to decline, Oblivion remaster is the best-selling game in April

Circana analyst Mat Piscatella released the monthly report focusing on the American gaming market. He revealed that the top hit in the U.S. for April was The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

  • According to Circana, the remaster of Oblivion is selling better than the original game. The original took 15 months to sell as many copies in the U.S. as the remaster sold in April alone. It reached a comparable revenue level in 14 months.
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is the only new entry in the top 20 best-selling games in the U.S. for April.
  • Forza Horizon 5 (↑40 to second place) and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (↑112 to sixth place) showed strong sales growth. In both cases, the release of versions for PlayStation 5 was credited for this increase.
  • In April, Call of Duty topped the MAU (monthly active users) charts on PlayStation and Xbox, while Schedule I led on Steam.
  • The PlayStation 5 continued to lead over other consoles in both unit and dollar sales in the U.S.
  • Overall, in April, U.S. residents spent $4.07 billion on video games, gaming hardware, and accessories. This is 3% less than the previous year.
  • The majority of spending went to game content — $3.72 billion (-2%). Hardware sales totaled $186 million (-8%). Accessory sales accounted for $166 million (-2%).
