Tencent's gaming division earned twice as much in the quarter as the entire NetEase
The Chinese giant Tencent also released its report for the first quarter of 2025. We have highlighted the main points from the document.
Delta Force
- In the first three months of 2025, Tencent generated RMB 180 billion (USD 25.1 billion, +13%).
- Tencent's net profit reached RMB 49.7 billion (USD 6.9 billion, +17%), while gross profit was RMB 100.5 billion (USD 14 billion, +20%).
Quarterly revenue allocation for Tencent by segments from 2022-2025
- Games generated 33% of Tencent's revenue or RMB 59.5 billion (USD 8.2 billion, +23.7%). For comparison, NetEase's revenue—the second largest gaming company in China—during the same period was more than half lower, amounting to RMB 28.8 billion (USD 3.97 billion).
- Tencent's game sales in China amounted to RMB 42.9 billion (USD 5.95 billion, +24%). The growth was achieved thanks to four titles: Honor of Kings, Peacekeeper Elite, Dungeon & Fighter Mobile, and Delta Force.
- Tencent's game sales in the international market rose to RMB 16.6 billion (USD 2.3 billion, +23%). The main drivers were Brawl Stars, Clash Royale, and PUBG Mobile.
- Several of Tencent's hit games set records in gross receipts in the first quarter. Among them were Honor of Kings and CrossFire Mobile. Exact figures are not disclosed.
- Compared to 2024, Valorant's gross receipts and daily active audience in China more than doubled.
- Tencent is pleased with Delta Force's success, noting that in April, the game's daily active audience in China alone reached 12 million people. According to Tencent, the shooter became the sixth most popular game in the domestic market. If we only consider games released in the last three years, Delta Force ranks first.
