In February, six new releases made it into the top 10 best-selling games in the United States. The overall market revenue decreased by 6%
Analyst Mat Piscatella from Circana shared a monthly report on the state of the gaming market in the United States. Despite the abundance of new releases, overall revenue continues to decline.
Monster Hunter Wilds
- In the second month of 2025, Americans spent $4.5 billion on video games, gaming hardware, and accessories. This is 6% lower compared to February 2024.
- The majority of consumer spending went to game content — $4 billion, which is a 4% year-over-year decline. Accessory sales amounted to $220 million (-8%).
- Hardware sales dropped significantly by 25% to $256 million. This is the worst February period since 2020, when the segment revenue was $184 million for the month.
- The best-selling premium game in February was predictably Monster Hunter Wilds. The game's revenue in its first month more than doubled the results of Monster Hunter: Rise.
- The new release from Capcom topped the charts on all platforms. Notably, over 50% of all revenue came from Steam.
- Following Wilds in the charts were three other new titles: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Civilization VII, and PGA Tour 2K25. Six new titles made it into the top 10, including Avowed (7th place) and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (8th place).
- Piscatella specifically noted that Kingdom Come: Deliverance II's first-month revenue was more than five times higher than the launch figures of the first game.
- In February, the PlayStation 5 once again had the best sales among consoles in the U.S. in both units and dollar sales. Currently, the PS5 is outselling the PS4 in the country by 7%.
- The Xbox Series X|S took second place for both units sold and revenue. However, the Microsoft console lags 19% behind the Xbox One.
