In 2024, the IAP revenue of the mobile gaming market in Russia exceeded $247 million

Last year, residents of Russia spent 12% more on games from Google Play and the App Store than in 2023, reports the newspaper "Vedomosti," citing data from the analytics company Sensor Tower. In total, their expenditures amounted to $247.2 million.

As a result, Russia ranked 36th in the world in terms of annual IAP (In-App Purchase) revenue from mobile games. Previously, Sensor Tower calculated that in 2024, the global mobile gaming market generated $80.9 billion from IAP, exceeding their forecast.

According to Sensor Tower, the highest-grossing genre of mobile games in Russia in 2024 was puzzles. The top hit in this genre is Royal Match. Strategies (Age of Origins), shooters (PUBG Mobile), and simulators (Roblox) also ranked among the top four genres by IAP revenue.

The number of game downloads from Google Play and the App Store in Russia last year reached 2.4 billion. Compared to 2023, they decreased by 9%.

Experts interviewed by "Vedomosti" suggest that downloads may have declined because some Russian users changed their region in Google Play and the App Store from Russia to another. Additionally, Russians have increasingly turned to downloading apps from other stores, such as RuStore and AppGallery. Another possible reason is that international publishers have reduced their efforts in the Russian market over the past couple of years.

Despite the decline, Russia remains one of the largest markets in terms of mobile game downloads. According to Sensor Tower, in 2024, it ranked fifth globally in download volume.
