“No, this is an exaggerated hoax,” say the MiSide developers about receiving only 1% from the game's sales
In recent days, Russian media have begun circulating reports that the Russian studio AIHASTO, which developed the highly popular anime horror MiSide, allegedly receives a minuscule share of the revenue despite significant sales.
This news was reported by many outlets, including "Gazeta.ru." However, as the news media App2Top.ru discovered, this information is not grounded in reality. In a conversation with the editorial team, the developers stated that it is a "blown-up fake."
They also refuted the information claiming that the publisher agreed to pay royalties to the team only if the game reached 2 million copies sold. This was mentioned in the same reports.
"No one would agree to such terms," the developers noted. Additionally, they mentioned that they are satisfied with the collaboration with the publisher and plan to continue working with them (the game has two publishers — IndieArk and Shochiku, which handles the project in Japan).
Notably, the rights to the IP (the game and the character) remain with the AIHASTO team.
For reference, according to unofficial data obtained from the Gamalytic service, the game might have sold 1.3 million copies within a month, earning between $8.4 million and $26.2 million.
At its peak, MiSide attracted 23.7 thousand concurrent players on Steam. Over the past week, its online player count has remained at 5-6 thousand. The game holds an "extremely positive" rating on Steam (98%) based on 82 thousand reviews.
