European video game sales increased by 1% in 2024, according to the European Annual Report
EA Sports FC 25 emerged as the leading game by sales in Europe for 2024, although its sales were 5% lower than EA Sports FC 24 in the previous year.
Information from GSD provided to VGC showed a 1% growth in European PC and console game sales, with a total of 188.1 million units sold over the year.
Digital game sales reached 131.6 million, a significant 15% rise from the last year. However, physical sales experienced a 22% drop, with 56.5 million games sold through physical outlets.
In terms of rankings, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 secured the second spot in sales for the year, achieving 9% higher sales compared to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 released in 2023.
Helldivers 2 became the top newcomer, securing sixth place, while new releases made up 27% of total sales, compared to 34% in the prior year.
Sales of Fallout 4 jumped by 183%, placing it at 19th, primarily due to the new Amazon series and price reductions.
The console market faced a downturn with a 21% decline in hardware sales. The Xbox Series X|S saw a significant drop of 48%. The PlayStation 5 was still the top seller but had a 20% sales decrease, and Nintendo Switch sales fell by 15%, continuing into its eighth year.
