October saw a resurgence in spending by US gaming consumers, prompted by the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.

Data from Circana reveals a 10% annual rise in spending across hardware, software, and accessories, totaling $4.7 billion.

The largest portion, content, grew by 12% to $4.23 billion, while hardware experienced a decrease of 23%, settling at $249 million.

Not only did Black Ops 6 claim the top spot in the US sales charts for October, but it also became the third highest-selling game in 2024 thus far. Circana attributed a 16% boost in non-mobile subscription spending to Black Ops 6's availability on Game Pass, coinciding with Xbox's announcement that it set new records for Game Pass subscriptions at the end of October.

Console content was identified as the main factor behind the overall growth in content spending, rising 27% compared to last year, largely due to digital full game sales.

"A significant 82% of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's console full game sales were on PlayStation during October," stated Mat Piscatella from Circana.

He further mentioned, "Sales of Black Ops 6 during its initial two weeks surpassed the initial fortnight sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) by 23% year-over-year."

Eight new titles entered the top ten of the US gaming charts in October, with Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero and Silent Hill 2 (2024) securing the second and third positions, respectively.

EA's Dragon Age: The Veilguard landed at number six, while Sega introduced two entries: Metaphor: ReFantazio at number five and Sonic X Shadows Generations at number nine.
