Sales of the Call of Duty franchise have surpassed 500 million copies, second only to Mario
Activision Blizzard has revealed the sales figures for the Call of Duty brand shortly after news of the record launch of Black Ops 6. The series has surpassed 500 million copies sold since the release of the first game in 2003.
Representatives of the publisher shared this information with The Washington Post. However, the company did not disclose the sales of individual titles.
Based on the new data, Call of Duty is the second best-selling franchise in history, trailing only Mario.
Top 5 best-selling video game franchises:
1. Mario — 879.41 million copies;
2. Call of Duty — 500 million copies;
3. Tetris — 495 million copies (the majority being paid downloads on mobile devices);
4. Pokémon — 480 million copies;
5. Grand Theft Auto — 430 million copies, including 200 million for GTA V.
