Revenue from the Japanese PC gaming market has tripled over four years
In 2023, the PC gaming market in Japan generated 236.4 billion yen, or approximately 1.6 billion dollars, according to a report by the CESA association. Compared to 2019, its revenue has tripled.

Analyst Serkan Toto from Kantan Games noted that not only is the revenue of PC games in Japan growing in recent years, but their market share is also rapidly increasing. While in 2019, they accounted for only 5% of the total Japanese gaming market revenue, by 2023, it had risen to 13%.

- 2019 - 82.2 billion yen (560.6 million dollars);
- 2020 - 121.7 billion yen (830 million dollars);
- 2021 - 132.1 billion yen (901 million dollars);
- 2022 - 189.2 billion yen (1.3 billion dollars);
- 2023 - 236.4 billion yen (1.6 billion dollars).
It is noteworthy that the market share of console games in Japan has remained almost unchanged over these years, consistently holding at around 20%. This is largely due to the unwavering popularity of Nintendo Switch games among the Japanese.
