Don't Nod halts two projects following disappointing sales of Jusant and Banishers
Don't Nod has released its financial report for the early part of 2024, highlighting below-expected performance of its recent games, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and Jusant.
The company, based in Paris, disclosed that its operational revenue dropped by 11% year-over-year, decreasing from €16.5 million to €14.6 million.
Revenue from development also fell to €2 million, coinciding with the completion of Banishers' development. Additionally, capitalized production decreased to €1.1 million due to the "temporary suspension of two production lines."
Sales revenue hit €1.2 million, bolstered by its back catalogue, including titles like Vampyr and the Life is Strange series, alongside Jusant and Banishers.
Following its unsatisfactory financial results, Don't Nod will implement a €24 million asset write-down for Jusant and Banishers.
Two projects currently in the design phase have been "temporarily paused" with a projected write-down of €7.6 million, as resources are being reallocated to prioritize stronger prospects.
The firm aims to concentrate on upcoming intellectual properties, specifically focusing on titles with promising short- and medium-term returns such as Lost Records: Bloom and Rage, set to launch in early 2025.
Additionally, plans include two internal projects expected before 2027 ends, and two externally developed projects set for release next year.
"Our recent market performance is a source of disappointment," stated Oskar Guilbert, CEO and chairman of Don't Nod.
"Although Jusant and Banishers received excellent reviews, they fell short in commercial success, affecting our mid-2024 financials and prompting us to consider all available strategies moving forward."
