Square Enix has announced that sales figures for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 have fallen short of anticipated levels
Takashi Kiryu, the president of Square Enix, revealed that the sales figures for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 have fallen short of the company's forecast.
Kiryu stated: "Despite launching several new games in the HD Games sector, including major releases like Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we did not achieve the anticipated earnings."
This information, highlighted by Eurogamer.net, was not publicly disclosed until now.
The performance of Foamstars also did not meet expectations in terms of sales, leading to it being made free-to-play last month, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz.
At the time of these remarks, Final Fantasy 16 had been launched for roughly 11 months since June 2023, while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth had just hit the market in February 2024.
Square Enix's quarterly financial report released in early August 2024, covering the period up to June 30, disclosed a substantial decline in revenue from the previous fiscal quarter.
This downturn was attributed to weaker sales of new releases during Q1 2025, including SaGa: Emerald Beyond and the HD remastered Kingdom Hearts collection on Steam.
