Sony pulled Concord from sale. Less than two weeks have passed since the release of the game service
The sad story of Concord came to a swift end. An announcement appeared on the official PlayStation blog regarding the cessation of sales and the shutdown of the game's servers.
Concord is no longer available for purchase on the PlayStation Store, Epic Games Store, and Steam. The game will cease functioning on September 6. All game owners on these digital platforms will be offered a refund.
"While many aspects of the project resonated with players, we also acknowledge that the game and its initial launch did not go as planned," explained Ryan Ellis, the game's director.
According to his statements, it's premature to talk about the final conclusion of the game's story. The company is currently "exploring options, including those that would allow us to better reach" the audience. Concord might return to the store as a free-to-play game in the future.
The official launch of Concord, developed by Firewalk Studios, now a part of Sony's internal studios, took place on August 23. The project was a multiplayer hero shooter in the spirit of Overwatch, distributed on a premium model.
The game's release was extremely unsuccessful for a AAA title (especially a multiplayer one). Concord's peak online on Steam did not even reach a thousand players. According to Simon Carless's estimate, the number of copies sold is around 25,000.
