Apple's gaming revenue reportedly exceeds that of Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo combined

Apple might not be making games, but it knows how to monetize them. A report by The Wall Street Journal suggests the iPhone maker is generating more video games revenue than the key platform holders.

According to the analysis, Apple earned $8.5 billion from video games in fiscal 2019, which is $2 billion more than the combined operating profit by Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Activision for the same period.

The report also cites estimates by mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, which claims that Apple’s gaming revenue could be even higher. As per Sensor Tower, Apple received $15.9 billion in revenue from the App Store in fiscal 2019, with 69% of that amount generated by games.

Apple itself, though, has maintained that the company never tried to determine how much exactly the App Store is generating or just how profitable games are.
