European video game sales increased in July even though there were no significant new releases, according to the European Monthly Charts
In July, European video game sales reached 2.4 million, marking a 3.4% increase compared to the same period last year. Notably, the only new release among the top ten was "Luigi's Mansion 2 HD," securing the ninth position, while all other titles debuted before 2024. Topping the list was "EA Sports FC 24."
The dominance of EA's football game at the peak of the charts coincided with the European Championships occurring in July, which fueled its 69% increase in sales over its predecessor, FIFA 23, from last year, when no major football event took place. Various sales promotions also impacted the rankings, with 2012’s "Hitman Absolution," which was offered free on Amazon Prime, climbing to eighth place.
The new title "EA Sports College Football 25" made a strong entry in the UK, although it appeared at number 39 across Europe. In the console market, 263,000 units were sold across selected regions, exempting key areas such as the UK and Germany. This reflected a significant 46% decrease from the previous year. Despite leading the market, PS5 sales fell 56% compared to last year. The Nintendo Switch ranked second, experiencing a 29% decline, while Xbox Series consoles landed in third, down 42%. Notably, no major console game releases occurred in July.
Regarding gaming accessories, 1.08 million items were sold, with the PS5 DualSense controller leading the sales. However, the overall accessory sales dropped by nearly 20% year-on-year.
