EA Sports' College Football 25 has made a significant impact in the United Kingdom, according to the latest monthly sales charts

July saw a tepid month for video game launches in the UK, with EA Sports College Football 25 debuting at No.7. This American Football title performed well despite the sport's modest following in the territory, achieving sales that more than doubled those of Madden NFL 24 in its first fortnight last year.

The top-seller for July was EA Sports FC 24, benefitting from the European Football championships taking place earlier in the month, particularly with England reaching the final. Notably, its sales were 46% higher than those of FIFA 23 during the same timeframe the previous year.

Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn climbed to No.6 on the charts, thanks to its new expansion, Dawntrail, released on July 2nd.

Total sales of PC and console games declined by 2.9% compared to July 2023, with 2.35 million games sold within the UK. Reflecting the quiet period in major game releases, the top six positions were occupied by games launched before 2024.

PlayStation Dominates UK Console Market

There was a 22% month-on-month dip in video game console sales, with just over 77,000 units sold according to GfK panel data, which also reflects a 30% year-on-year decrease. Despite a 31% drop in sales, the PS5 retained the top spot. The Nintendo Switch moved up to second place despite a 9% decline, while the Xbox Series S and X fell to third due to a 19% decrease.

July was significant for PS5 as it hit four million sales in the UK, trailing the PS4 by 31 weeks, making it the fifth fastest-selling console in the region. Read more details here.

In terms of accessories, over 540,000 items were purchased in the UK in July, marking a 17% drop from June and a 4% decrease from July last year.

GfK's revenue data shows that the PlayStation Portal was the top-selling accessory, with the White DualSense controller following. In sales volume, the Portal ranked 11th in accessories year-to-date. Dorian Bloch, GfK's games lead, disclosed that "since its launch in November 2023, the Sony PlayStation Portal Remote Player has consistently been the top-selling gaming accessory by revenue in the UK, except for January due to stock shortages."
